WBL first ride.

Yesterday 100+ brave soles showed up to do the first Winter Bike League ride of the season. It was postponed from the week before and people were itching to go. This ride was gonna happen rain or shine. When we got to Sunshine Bicycles in downtown it was 44 degrees. Started out the ride chatting with Jered "strongman" Gruber. We rolled out of town pretty fast. The group actually stayed together what a miracle. Maybe the ride would be a good ride. Pretty smooth first 2 hours. We dropped some folks coming up a long grade to the rest stop. We pulled up to the small cinder block building in the middle of I don't know where. The gas pumps were something out of the 1960's no pay at the pump surprised it was not manual crank. The Indian guy behind the counter did not know what hit him when 100 cyclist pulled up and filled the 20x20 square cinder block building. People pissing everywhere on the guys grass. I think it was his wife that came out and yelled at some people. No bathrooms and no water tap. I got cold just sitting there waiting for the ride to start again. After that point I really though about cutting it short. The temperature dropped by 5 degrees at that point it was now 39 degrees. Once we got started all I was thinking about was getting back and hopefully we were not coming back in on Hargrove Lake Rd. and those big rollers. When we reached the sprint point at about 65 miles I was thinking why are they having a CAT 4,5 only downhill sprint to a bridge. I would not be sprinting today somebody always crashes on this type of shit. Thank god we came back in the easy way not many hills. But the pace got picked up by Nasty Nick Housley because the rain started to fall. We rolled in through Winterville town center with the pace steady. People were done at this point. I looked around and the group was maybe about 40 people now. Made the selection I was happy. Got back to the shop and just sat down on the couch for a few minutes. I checked and it was now 38 degrees. The bullet rolled in a few minutes later he got popped in Winterville when they picked up the pace. Good ride man. We will see what next week holds.

Brian and the Cub Scouts.

Cub Scouts Safety Class.
Brian held a saftey class for a local troop of cub scouts at Sandy Creek Nature Center last weekend. Here is the crew learning some basic safety rules of the road. Thanks to Adam Jones for setting up things up. There is some basic safety information that all young kids should know if they are going to be riding bikes in an urban setting.

If you would like to set up a saftey class for you school or club just call the store. It is free of charge and we love doing it. It is great to see kids on their bikes and learning some usefull info to keep them safe on the roads.

WASTED BACK TO SCHOOL!!!

Dreamin of a Dales.
What a crazy last week. Back to school is really here. Mark and Erik are out of town. Mark is in Vegas maybe getting hitched. Ha Ha! I told him his woman was planning it without him knowing. He just can't come to grips that she wears the pants now. Erik is driving cross country scouting out a route for Trek Travel. So it is up to the old guys me and Loehr to hold down the fort during the madness. Busines has been off the charts and we are totally wasted at the end of the day in need of some good beer. So if anyone wants to bring some by tomorrow we would love it.

We got some cool new Hub decals for your car, bike, or maybe put it on yourself. We are totally loaded up with all kinds of great accessories for all your bike needs. Keep an eye out for specials in the Flagpole and other local print media. If you are a student ask about the Bulldog Bike Bargain. Don't forget tomorrow is Friday and that means Happy Hour at the shop from 5-6pm. So come on by and relax at the bar with your favorite beverage. A good way to end the week hanging at The Hub.

Tuesday Night MTB

Another of our Tuesday Night Mountain Bike Rides was tempered by the weather, almost as if it's summer in Georgia, or HOT. A few of us pushed through the heat, and even Brian took his Madone through the paces...at least as far as the take-off ramp. We had a good ride going on the LMNOP(L) trail until Mark decided to remove sticks from the trail with his rear derailleur. It was a good gesture, but it ended up with Loehr and Erik towing him up Milledge to the shop - at least we got in a good training session.

Brian's 1st crit in over 5 years.

Hey everybody I attempted my first criterium in over 5 years this past weekend. It was a Cat 4/5 35+ race. The race was only 40min long kind of short but it was a ton of fun. I got in a couple breaks and chased some down. In the end I ended up chasing down the wrong guy with 4 laps to go. We got caught and the guy who won the race attacked with 1.5 laps to go and he ended up winning. I ended up taking 6th place. Not bad for 5 years out of the sport.

We have arrived!

It's finally happened, The Hub has entered the digital age with our brand-spankin new blog. We will be using this to keep ya'll up to date on what's happening here at 1245 S. Milledge with our weekly rides, sales, special events, club meetings, and any important info on cycling here in Athens.

Because reading is a bit more boring without pictures, here is a shot of our Service Manager - Mark "don't make me ride a road bike" Schroeder.

Don't forget - we have weekly mountain bike rides leaving 6:15pm on Tuesdays, and road rides leaving 6:15pm on Wednesdays.
